My aunt used to make these when I was growing up, and I think she got the recipe from her grandmother. They're kind of an old-fashioned cookie: I see them sometimes in those catalogs that sell old-timey, discontinued foods and household goods. They make me think of the 1940s, maybe sitting at a Formica table after school with a plate of these homemade cookies and a glass of cold milk.

Directions

Sift together flour and salt. Work butter in a bowl until creamy; and honey and beat until blended. Add almond extract. Gradually add sifted dry ingredients, beating well after each addition. Stir in nuts.

Cover and chill 1 hour. Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Shape into 1-inch balls and placed on ungreased cookie sheets about 1 1/2 inches apart. Bake 12-15 minutes or until lightly browned. Roll cookies in confectioner's sugar while still warm and again when cooled.

Serve : 5 dozen

Ready in : 1 1/2 hours
