This is my Grandma's recipe from World War II. It was popular then because it doesn't require any butter, eggs or milk. So it's great for vegans, but also, it's like a cool science experiment that you can eat (a chemical reaction between the vinegar and baking soda creates bubbles and get the cake to rise). Just add your favorite frosting and nuts!

My family has been making this recipe for the better part of 70 years. It has come to be known as Cockeyed Cake. It is unique as it is traditional to be made right in the pan. No mess, no mixing bowls, just the cake pan. A very rich dark chocolate cake and well received by those who have tried it.

Fun to make with the kids and good too! All the way from WWII... We need to get back to the good old days when food was simple and homemade!
