Back in the 1940s in rural Vermont, my grandmother and her fellow farm wives passed around cookie recipes every month at their social circle. This was a popular one--it says so right on my grandma's handwritten recipe card!

Directions

In a small bowl, beat the egg whites until stiff. In another bowl, stir together the walnuts, sugar, chocolate, and rum. Fold in the egg whites and mix gently. Roll mixture between your hands to form 1/2-in balls. Moisten balls if necessary with a little rum. Roll the balls in chopped nuts or sugar.

Serve : About 30 cookies

Ready in : 45 minutes
